‘Tis the season of viral FaceBook memes. First there was the 25 Random Things about Me phenomenon. Then a couple others. Now there’s Create your Band Name & Album Cover.
There are band name generators online, but this meme adds the album name and art, not to mention the opportunity to waste your lunch hour.
Here’s all you gotta do:
1 – Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 – Go to Quotations Page and select “random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.
3 – Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 – Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.
Then you spam all your FaceBook friends with it. My friend Jeff was the first one who took the plunge. His came out really well:
Monkey see, monkey do. On Wikipedia, my random article was about “Battle of Nördlingen.” Cool! It even has an umlaut! After a quote and a flickr, I ended up with this:
I have to admit, I got crazy lucky. My band not only had a font all set up for them (can you imagine “Battle of Nördlingen” in some girly script?), they were practically already booked on the spandex and umlaut circuit.
True, I added a gratiuitous umlaut in the word future, but … wouldn’t yoü?
It was Friday. It was lunch time. It was time to do another! I didn’t get quite as lucky the second time:
The Algoma District School Board? Some bozo’s photo of his tricked-up teal tuner car? Only a löser would buy that album.
So … one last time!
Yep. “Samoa Breweries.” We were pretty much fermented at the name. And what are we looking at, rotting wood? Ah well. Could be worse. Could be this:
Oh, wait. That’s an actual album.
